Sweeney led the annual May Crowning of the Blessed Mother and was main celebrant of the Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Easter, which also was Good Shepherd Sunday and World Day of Prayer for Vocations. Sweeney led the annual May Crowning, a tradition during the month of May to honor the Blessed Mother, in St. Peter the Apostle Church here May 8.
Before the crowning of a statue of the Blessed Mother, the Bishop celebrated Mass for the Fourth Sunday of Easter. Since 2005, the Diocese has had a May Crowning event, which includes hymns dedicated to Mary. Many First Communicants also participate in the celebration.
