WHIPPANY Our Lady of Mercy Parish here welcomed Bishop Serratelli as he made a pastoral visit to the Morris County church June 19. During the visit, the Bishop celebrated Mass for the 12th Sunday in Ordinary Time, which was also Father’s Day.
The history of the parish goes back to 1854 when the cornerstone of the first church was laid. St. Vincent Martyr Parish in Madison cared for the mission until 1882 when it was established as a parish. At the centennial of the first church, a new church and school were built on Whippany Road in 1954. The original church was renovated in 1982.
