PASSAIC Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to the Shrine of St. John Paul II at Holy Rosary Church here Oct. 18 where he celebrated Mass for the 29th Sunday in Ordinary Time.
During the Mass, the Bishop blessed doors at Holy Rosary designated in the diocese as Holy Doors to mark the upcoming Holy Year of Mercy, designated by Pope Francis. The Holy Year will begin On Dec. 8, the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception and end in 2016 on Nov. 20, the Solemnity of Christ the King. St. Margaret Parish in Morristown is the other location that has designated diocesan Holy Doors.
These two doors will be opened Dec. 8 when the Holy Year of Mercy begins. A procession was also held with the Blessed Sacrament and a relic of St. Pope John Paul II in Holy Rosary Church, which is the site of the diocesan St. John Paul II Shrine. St. John Paul II’s feast day is Oct. 22, the anniversary of his inauguration as Pope in 1978.
