SPARTA Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to Our Lady of the Lake Parish here Sept. 10. During the visit, the Bishop celebrated the 5 p.m. vigil Mass for the 24th Sunday in Ordinary Time. Our Lady of the Lake began as a mission at Lake Mohawk in Sparta in 1935. The church was built on Sparta Avenue in 1935 and was substantially enlarged in 1973. Bishop Boland formally established Our Lady of the Lake Parish in 1949. The parish school, Rev. George Brown Memorial School which is part of the Catholic Academy of Sussex County, opened in 1954.
