FLORHAM PARK Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to Holy Family Parish here and celebrated Mass Dec. 27 for the Feast of the Holy Family, the namesake of the parish. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Frederick Walters, pastor, and Father Thomas Rekiel, parochial vicar. During the Mass, couples who were celebrating milestone wedding anniversaries were honored and blessed by the Bishop. The Bishop also blessed new vestments and chasubles for the priests donated by 60 parishioners.
The history of the parish began in 1950 when a mission was developed in Florham Park. Sunday Masses were held at the Florham Park Roller Rink. Holy Family was formally established as a parish in 1954 and the church on Lloyd Avenue was built in 1952 on property donated by W. Lloyd Smith.
