DENVILLE Robert J. Stickles has been named the interim president of Morris Catholic High School here for the 2016-17 school year.
The announcement was made last week after Morris Catholic’s board of trustees and the Diocesan Schools Office worked together in conducting a search to select an interim president before the school year began.
Stickles succeeds Michael St. Pierre who resigned as Morris Catholic’s president in June to become executive director of the Catholic Campus Ministry Association.
“Robert Stickles has vast experience in the educational field and understands the culture of secondary education,” said Mary Baier, diocesan superintendent of schools. “We are pleased that he accepted the position and we welcome him to our diocesan family.”
Stickles comes to Morris Catholic from Roselle Catholic in Roselle, from which he is an alumnus and retired after service first as principal and then as president.
Stickles has also taught at St. Joseph Regional High School, Montvale, and St. Joseph of the Palisades High School, West New York; served as vice principal of Passaic Valley High School, Little Falls, and as a teacher at Paramus Catholic High School. He was graduated from Princeton University and has a doctorate in education from Columbia University and a law degree from Rutgers University.
“In the brief time I’ve been at Morris Catholic, I’ve been impressed with the enthusiasm and dedication of the people I’ve met, traits, I’m sure, which characterize the rest of the faculty and staff as well,” said Stickles. “I very much believe in the mission of schools like Morris Catholic, and so I’m happy to work with everyone here to help with this transition.”
Stickles also worked in the legal field for 28 years, first at Carpenter, Bennett & Morrissey in Newark and then at Buchanan, Ingersoll & Rooney, PC, Newark. New Jersey Monthly Magazine named him a “New Jersey Super Lawyer” in 2006, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
He resides in Glen Rock with his wife, Victoria, an elementary school teacher in the Franklin Lakes public school system. Active parishioners of St. Catharine Parish in Glen Rock, they have three adult children, Brendan, who was graduated from the U.S. Naval Academy; Cristin, who was graduated from the College of William and Mary, and Patrick, who was graduated from Ramapo College.
