PATERSON Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to St. Bonaventure Church here and celebrated Mass for the Second Sunday of Easter, also known as Divine Mercy Sunday April 3. During his visit, the Bishop administered the Sacrament of Confirmation to young people of the parish.
The history of the parish began in 1876 when Franciscan Friars came to Paterson from Germany and were given an abandoned Carmelite monastery built the previous year in the Stony Road section of the city. Bishop Corrigan gave it parish status in 1877. The church, on Ramsey Street and Danforth Avenue, was completed in 1880.
