CHESTER Bishop Serratelli made a pastoral visit to St. Lawrence the Martyr Parish here and celebrated Mass for the 30th Sunday in Ordinary Time Oct. 25. During the Mass, many families attended as well as students who attended religious education classes at the parish that morning.
The parish’s history began in 1950 when a mission was established in Chester and a Quonset hut church was erected on Main Street. The mission was raised to parish status in 1957 and the present church was built in 1963. St. Lawrence is responsible for the development of the parishes in Schooleys Mountain and Flanders.
