OLV’s history dates back to 1960 when Bishop McNulty established a mission in the Preakness area of Wayne. The first Masses were celebrated July 17, 1960 in Wayne Valley High School. The following year, OLV was advanced to parish status. A church and school were built on Valley Road in 1961-62 under the direction of Msgr. James J. Rugel, the founding pastor.
