PATERSON Bishop Sweeney made a pastoral visit to St. Therese Parish here Jan. 10. During his visit, he celebrated Mass marking the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord.
The history of St. Therese parish dates back to 1925 when St. Joseph Parish developed plans for a new parish in Paterson’s Eastside. A pastor was assigned in 1926 and a church was built on Thirteenth Avenue and East 33rd Street in 1927. It was dedicated to the newly canonized St. Therese of Lisieux. A new church was built in 1953.
